About Stuart Hampton

Born in Norway and educated in Scotland, Stuart practised medicine in Kuwait, Australia and the U.K. before moving to Brandon, Manitoba with his wife Mickey in 1969. That year, he joined a medical consulting practice with special interest in the care of the elderly and served in the intensive care unit of Brandon General Hospital. In 2018 they moved to Nova Scotia to be closer to their two daughters and granddaughters and after a brave battle with cancer, Mickey asked for a medically assisted death less than two years later.

Throughout his life Stuart has used art as a form of expression, but only since retirement found the time to devote to his studio. Adapting to the progressive loss of dexterity in his hands, he has developed his own distinctive style using layers of colour, texture, rubbing and composition. His works, all acrylic on canvas, capture images that, in his words, “let the paint tell its story”.
